The innocence of scooby and the gang
Scooby-Doo, my favorite cartoon. I remember being six years old and everyday right after school, like clockwork, I would be sitting in front of the T.V. watching Scooby-Doo. I would be singing along to the theme song and wondering what Scooby and the gang were gonna be meddling in that day. I was always amazed how a hungry dog, his best friend, and their gang figured out all of the mysteries. As a child, I learned a lot from watching Scooby. I learned that some adults are liars and are only looking for personal gain. Another important lesson that watching Scooby-Doo taught me was that persistence is the key to finding out the truth. Those lessons are what made Scooby-Doo such a great show. However, I am concerned that, today, the moral well being of Scooby and the gang have changed. Recently, I was flipping through the channels on my T.V. and Scooby’s face appeared on the screen. I was overcome with nostalgia and had to watch the rest of the episode. I was horrified to see that my favorite childhood series that I had always known to be about catching bad guys and solving mysteries was transformed to a romantic love story between Daphne and Fred. So, like the proper Scooby fan I investigated. The emotionally explicit relationship of fred and daphne in Scooby Doo mystery incorporated hurts the theme of innocents in Scooby Doo
A boy, his dog, and there 3 friends solving mysteries: that has always been the innocence of Scooby Doo Where Are You. Daffney never showed her love for Fred or Had urges to impress him, she is the cluts that got the gang side tracked and got captured that was her forte, not much eles. Scooby and Shaggy were always the scared ones, whenever they caught a hint of fear they would run the other direction but that a is the natural thing to do, Its ok to run away, but you have to face your fear eventually. Fred was the emotional rock of the gang he was always ready to find the truth, he never was worrying about his feelings for Daphne. Velma was the brains always looking for the next clue, she would piece all the clues together at the end, with the help of Fred of course. 5 meddling kids going town to town searching for the truth, No strings attached, That is what made Scooby Doo work. It was simple and efficient storytelling.
The Leader of the Gang is and has been Fred, he also is the only one who chooses to use his licence. This has not changed from the original series. If he wants to check out an abandoned mine or a creepy graveyard and the others don't, tough shit. Scooby and Shaggy sometimes regretted Freds decisions but, the truth is everywhere and you need to meddle and be persistent to find it. Velma was the odd one in the gang, the strong independent women taking charge and leading Scooby and Shaggy into creepy and uncharted territories. She looked for clues at all costs but God forbid if she lost her glasses, she became useless in an instant. I admired her more than the others she was the odd ball out but her scooby and shaggy were the glue that kept the gang together. Daphne on the other hand would always go along with Fred for the adventure or the bedroom. There is no denying older audiences of Scooby Doo Where Are You thought Daphne and Fred were seeing each other. “Scooby, Shaggy and Velma you guys check the basement for clues, Daphne and me will search the bedrooms” This what Fred would do to split up the gang and search for clues. This is the extent of subtextual evidence of Fred and Daphnes physical and emotional relationship in the 1970’s through 90’s Scooby Doo Where Are You. When did the story become so complicated. In the clip above you can plainly see Daphne and Fred have taken a emotionally explicit role in Mystery Incorporated. How did this become the norm?
I've looked around the internet and I couldn't find the feelings i have about the lose of innocents in America. Am I just old fashioned? or is social media making kids grow up too fast and we don't realize it? I looked for the answer on the other side of the internets Pacific Ocean and found what I was looking for in England One article on dailymail.co.uk states A group of 200 teachers, academics and charity leaders some of which include Oxford university neuroligist Baroness Susan Greenfield and Lord Layrad emeritus professor of economics at the london school of economics Write “‘Our children are subjected to increasing commercial pressures, they begin formal education earlier than the European norm, and they spend ever more time indoors with screen-based technology, rather than in outdoor activity.” “‘The time has come to move from awareness to action.’” Now they go on to list 4 points to “interrupt the erosion of childhood” but I believe its simpler then that.
Change the cartoons and games children watch today. Children don't have to grow up so fast. The future is here we are a technological society, but Scooby and morals can still be in are hearts. Children can watch whatever they would like but morals need to be there. It doesn't need to be like Veggietales shoving a moral message down your throat but I think parents should be more cautious about what kids are watching. #bring the innocences back.
